Broken Smokes.

In the spirit of 90s anti-heroes, Pavement and Beck, come the deadpan vocals (“Waiting Part”), acoustic melodies, alt-rock fuzz (“Winning Side”), and eccentric, but catchy choruses of Broken Smokes. The trio's amalgamation of lo-fi quirk (“Heading South”) and introspective lyrics make them quite possibly one of the coolest local bands you're not listening to. Be sure to catch these guys at next their show. They'll be playing March 28th at Bacchanal Fine Wine & Spirits in the Marigny March 28, 2006.

anti-hero? quirk? hot alt rock fuzz? wine and spirits? these are a few of my favorite things.

as for john mayer, i will defend him to my grave. sure he pushed a few million albums with his boyish looks, charm, and some pop hits. but he's also grown into an incredible artist. anyone ever giving him flack is doing so because they can't move past first impressions. continuum is a perfect album. a little guitar prowess. a little sentimentalism. a little pop. a little power. a lot of introspection.

and if you've never seen his vh1 special, 'the john mayer show,' well.. then you don't appreciate him half as much as you will after you youtube it.
